Two days are enough to fall in love with Venice — if you plan them the right way. Based in Cannaregio, the authentic, well-connected neighbourhood where Cà Letizia is, you see the great classics on day one and the real Venice on day two, without rushing. Here's a weekend itinerary, day by day.
📅 Day 1 — The great landmarks
The first day is for the monumental heart of the city. From Cannaregio, set off on foot along Strada Nuova:
- Rialto Bridge and the market — cross the most famous bridge over the Grand Canal, with the Erberia and Pescheria (in the morning).
- St Mark's Square — the Basilica with its golden mosaics, the Campanile and the Doge's Palace. Tip: book tickets online to skip the queue.
- A cruise along the Grand Canal — on the way back, take vaporetto Line 1: the city's cheapest and most spectacular "cruise", among the historic palazzi.
- Evening — back to Cannaregio for a bacaro crawl with cicchetti and a glass of wine along the Fondamenta della Misericordia.
📅 Day 2 — Authentic Venice and the lagoon
The second day slows down and reveals the city away from the crowds:
- Morning in Cannaregio — the church of the Madonna dell'Orto (Tintoretto's church), the Jewish Ghetto (the oldest in Europe) and the neighbourhood's quiet canals.
- In the afternoon, your choice:
- An island — from the nearby Orto stop, a hop to Murano (glass) or on to Burano (the colourful houses).
- Or Dorsoduro — the Gallerie dell'Accademia, the Peggy Guggenheim and a walk along the Zattere at sunset.
- One last aperitivo — before you leave, a final spritz in a small square, watching the boats go by.
💡 Tips for a perfect weekend
- Comfortable shoes: in two days you'll walk a lot, over bridges and through alleys.
- Timed ACTV ticket (24/48 hours): if you use the vaporetti, it beats singles.
- Start early in the morning: San Marco and Rialto are emptier and more magical.
- Book online the Basilica and Doge's Palace to avoid the queues.
- Get lost on purpose: the nameless alleys are often the best part.
